Visa

You will need a visa for this motorcycle trip. You can arrange this on the spot upon arrival. Please make sure that your passport is still valid for at least 6 months upon your return.

Driving License

You will need an international driver's license for this motorcycle trip.

Follow car

From 6 participants upwards there will be a follow car along for the bagaga. Because we sometimes take small and or unpaved roads/paths, the follow car may take a different route. Always make sure you have your gear with you for the day.

Clothing

Experienced motorcyclists know better than anyone else that wearing proper clothing is important, so even in the tour you are going to ride we stick to it. The requirement is to wear long pants ( motorcycle pants) and a ( motorcycle ) jacket, as well as sturdy motorcycle shoes or possibly high hiking boots and summer gloves. It is best to bring your own helmet.

Be aware that especially in the mountains, weather changes can occur and it may cool down or rain. Always bring 1 fleece sweater and rain gear. Raincoat is also good to use to block the wind when it gets colder.

Heavy travel

We ride a lot of dirt and off road. Some routes we have the choice to take on the spot. This depends on weather conditions and or experience within the group.

Mechanic

For this trip, a mechanic will accompany you on the motorcycle. If the group does not exceed 4 participants, he is also a guide.

Insurance

For this trip, you are required to have a travel insurance needed with world coverage. Check carefully in advance whether motorcycling is covered. The policy number and emergency number should be taken with you and given to R2D in advance as well. Damage to third parties in an accident is not insured, and is usually settled on the spot. Regardless of who is at fault, the foreigner will usually pay for third-party damages. Fortunately, we are usually talking about very small amounts, unless it is a major accident.

Insurance to damage motorcycle is insured with an excess of at least 300 usd. For upgrades engines, there is an excess of 500 usd.

Health

About malaria there are many ambiguities. For proper advice, consult your GP/GGD or travel clinic. They can advise you whether you should take malaria pills ( usually Malarone ) for this trip, they can also assess whether this is possible in combination with any personal
drugs. Diarrhea can easily occur due to heat combined with a different type of food. Often the diarrhea is gone after a few days and can also be suppressed by Imodium, for example. If the diarrhea occurs for longer, local doctors have various remedies to treat it. If you depend on drugs or diseases, you should check with your doctor beforehand. He can assess whether this will not adversely affect the trip to be made. You should also inform R2D about this in advance.

Flexibility

R2D tries everything, as best as possible, to keep the trip on track, however, there may be situations where flexibility is expected from participants. There may be engine trouble or the planned route is temporarily not possible due to works. R2D tries to have you stay in good 2** to 4** star hotels or cottages where possible. However, because we want to discover pure adventure and ride to places rarely visited by tourists it may occasionally happen that the accommodation is not optimal and thus some adjustment is expected.

Day stages

The routes go as much as possible on small roads, mountain passes, valleys, through plantations and villages. Upon arrival, a briefing will inform you in detail about what to look out for during the trip. The roads are not of the same quality as in European countries, but are getting better. Thus, there may be large holes or parts of the road that are washed away. The weather has a great influence on asphalt and dirt roads which means that a road that was passable last year may now be in very bad condition.

Traffic

Driving in Asia is different from participating in traffic in Western European countries. In the briefing you will be informed about this in detail.

Money

You can use debit cards at most of the places we visit; however, you must have your card unlocked in advance for this purpose.

Electricity

Bali and Java have the same plug as most countries in Europe, but does not take away from bringing a world plug anyway.

Reviews of the trip

The contact with the office was perfect! Quick responses and clear communication. With room for adjustments and personal wishes. Both guides, Putu and Yoga were generally attentive to the group, tuned in and discussed what the needs were. They also regularly warned of risks and were very helpful. Bags were brought to the room, etc. Evening drinks together and nice contact both at night and during the day. Overall it was a nice variety in terms of landscapes, on-road and off-road, different hotels and locations for lunch. And a good combination of effort and relaxation. Thoroughly enjoyed it! The highlights were variety, beautiful nature, viewing the Bromo volcano, coffee/tea at local small restaurants and variety in hotels/locations.

HAROLD VREEMANAPRIL 2024

The trip was really super! A nice combo of nature, culture, relax, stay, population.
Driving through the plantations and through the villages, The Bromo volcano with driving over the sand.
We really liked the beautiful accommodations and gave a real vacation feeling.
Actually, there were highlights in every day.

GepkeMay 2023

The tour guide was really top notch. Putu is a top guide, the best guide as far as I have had. The trip had very nice itineraries, there was plenty to see and plenty of challenge. The highlights were the Bromo, the off road rides over the crater rim of the Batur volcano, driving through the plantations, the picnic/coffee along the way and eating along the way in local non tourist tents.

Johan StrikwerdaJuly 2024

Contact with office was fine, as always. Putu was the best guide! The trip was beyond expectations, with more off road than expected and with very nice routes. The highlights of the trip were the routes, the people and the volcano.

Marco SmitJuly 2024

The trip went very well. Everything was neatly arranged. The highlight for me was driving over the Bromo volcano, also the interior of Java was very beautiful. Visiting the plantation was definitely worthwhile and the hospitality of the people there I also found very special. The local guide Putu and Roland guided the trip very well, I am very pleased with them. All in all, a very successful trip. The only point of improvement that I missed a bit was a rest day on the Bromo volcano. You would then have a day there to go to the viewpoints at your leisure to look at Semeru and Bromo. But otherwise again a very successful trip with nice hotels and resorts

Frequently Asked Questions - Motorcycle tour Indonesia Bali Java

Do I need off-road experience for this motorcycle trip?

Yes, for this Bali-Java Adventure motorcycle trip is offroad experience important. During the trip we regularly ride on dirt roads, jungle tracks, dirt trails and mountain roads. The routes are doable for motorcyclists with some off-road experience, but this trip is less suitable for beginners.

How tough is this adventure motorcycle trip?

This trip is designed for motorcyclists who enjoy adventure and challenge. We ride through varied terrain with many off-road sections, sometimes through remote areas. The daily distances are manageable, but the terrain can be technical at times. That is exactly what makes this trip so special.

The period in which you travel also affects the level of difficulty. During or just after the rainy season (about December to March), the off-road trails can be muddier and more challenging. In the drier months, roughly from May to October, the trails tend to be drier and easier to ride.

On both Bali as Java this difference in seasons ensures that the same route can sometimes offer a completely different riding experience - from sporty and technical to smooth and fast.

Is this motorcycle trip suitable for passengers?

No, this adventure trip is Not suitable for riding with a passenger. Due to the off-road routes and sometimes technical terrain, it is important to keep the bike as light and maneuverable as possible.

What is one of the highlights of this trip?

One of the absolute highlights is driving through the volcanic landscape around the famous Mount Bromo. The combination of black lava fields, foggy mountain roads and spectacular views makes this an unforgettable experience for any motorcyclist.

How much off-roading do we do on this trip?

Much of this trip consists of off-road routes. We drive on jungle roads, volcanic trails and small mountain roads where you would never get with a regular round trip. Of course, we sometimes connect these routes with stretches of asphalt, but adventure is key.

What kind of motorcycles will we use on this trip?

During this adventure motorcycle trip, we will ride on light and agile 150cc enduro motorcycles. These motorcycles are ideal for the terrain encountered during the trip and offer more than enough power for the off-road routes. Their low weight and maneuverability make them perfect for narrow trails, mountain roads and dirt tracks.

For experienced off-road riders, there is also the option of opting for a 230cc or 250cc enduro engine. This can be nice if you are used to a little more power or a larger engine.

Heavier engines are for this trip ill-suited, because a lighter enduro does much better on the technical and sometimes challenging off-road routes on Bali and Java. This keeps riding not only more fun, but also safer and more controllable.

How many kilometers do we drive per day?

On average, we drive between 120 and 200 kilometers per day. Since much of it is off road, we will take plenty of time to ride the routes leisurely and stop frequently for rest, photos and lunch.
