Magical Nepal with the white peaks of the Himalayas

Nepal - an absolute must for every adventurous motorcyclist.

The adventure begins as soon as you land in the chaotically charming capital city Kathmandu. A city where sacred cows stroll through the traffic, honking tuktuks fill the streets and ancient temples are hidden among the modern jumble. We deliberately take an extra day here, because places like the mystical Swayambhunath, the historical Kathmandu Durbar Square and the impressive body burnings at the Pashupatinath Temple are simply not to be missed.

Then we leave city life behind and head deeper into the wilderness of Nepal. We spend the night on the edge of Chitwan National Park, an immense 952 km² nature reserve full of jungle, wildlife and the thrilling sounds of nature. You sleep here in a place where Bengal tigers, Indian rhinos and wild elephants live - literally around the corner.

Along the way we pass Lumbini, the spiritual birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Buddha, over 2,600 years ago. A special place where silence is almost tangible among monasteries, temples and flying prayer flags.

But the real adventure begins when we set sail for Lower Mustang, high in the Himalayas. We drive on rugged, unpaved mountain roads where behind every hairpin turn appears a new and overwhelming panorama of the mountains. With giant peaks such as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri towering above the landscape, you feel small here - and at the same time alive as never before.

In the ancient mountain village Kagbeni we sleep in a place where history is still tangible. You hear the tinkling of prayer bells, walk along ancient stone streets and dine under the watchful gaze of a huge Buddha. The village feels like a living museum, nestled among the mountains and winds of the Himalayas.

This is not a vacation - this is an expedition.
For the true adventurer, the explorer, the motorcyclist hungry for the unknown.

Namaste.

Heaviness of the journey

Nepal is divided in altitude into three regions. In the south is the lowlands, this is called the Terrai. This is a tropical area where elephants and rhinos live. In the north is the high Himalayas, with snow-capped peaks, the Annapurna and the foot of Mount Everest. The roads in this area are poor and dead ends in the high mountains. Between these two extremes lies the so-called low Himalayas. Our trip takes place in the latter area. So you won't reach high altitudes, except for the night in Lower Mustang. The distances are too not great and the trip as a whole is therefore not really tough but some experience is required.

Off road

About 50 percent of this trip is on unpaved roads and or trails. Most routes are not difficult but can be tiring. Sometimes there are parts that can be difficult. Some off road experience or already done similar trips is a must.

Clothing

Required are a helmet motorcycle jacket with protection hand-shoes a good sturdy (motorcycle) pants with protection or with loose knee protection and sturdy high (mountain) shoes. Especially in spring and autumn it can be very hot in the lower parts of the trip. A summer motorcycle jacket with protection is therefore recommended. Furthermore, good sunglasses are useful and a helmet with visor that protects from the dust. The rainy season falls in the summer months from June to the end of August. We plan our trips before or after this. Still, the weather can ignore all forecasts you should therefore take into account a possible rain shower on all trips.

Reviews of the trip

First of all, it was a once in a lifetime trip ! Unforgettable. We had so many unique experiences that it is already becoming difficult to recall them all. The contact with the office was excellent, quick and concise answers to my questions. Roland is an exceptional man, very experienced, sure of himself and a solid off road rider. Hans and I were clearly the riders with the least off road experience and had problems with some of Roland's choices. Steep roads, loose boulders and especially a lot of sand, roads we would never choose ourselves. So we crashed several times, fortunately without permanent damage to man and machine. We all crashed at least once. That says something about the difficulty of the course. Sunil was always the savior and always quickly on the spot if any help was needed, an absolute hero and indispensable on this trip. Overall it was a fantastic trip. Beautiful scenery, friendly people, lots of noise and dust, fantastic food, UNIQUE ! The highlights of the trip? Muktinath, the highest and highlight of the trip where I finally got to see my first 8000-er: Dhaulagiri. The old road back but Kagbeni and the stay there. The safari in Chitwan proved more fascinating than I thought because of the birds and tiger. Driving through Pokhara and Kathmandu were also highlights.

JAN MOEKENAPRIL 2024

We had a fantastic trip in Nepal. The combination of natural beauty and culture was nicely balanced. Especially in the high mountains, nature is overwhelming.
We made a good decision by replacing the safari trek with trekking in Muktinath. This trek turned out to be the highlight of our trip.
There was a nice variety of offroad and paved courses. The offroad was occasionally challenging but still doable each time with our group.
The bikes were excellent: robust and powerful; perfectly suited for this trip.
The accompanying 4x4 cars were also perfect.
Roland was a super guide: very pleasant person. He did not impose himself anywhere, but was present every time where necessary. He fit in very well with the group. Took firm decisions where necessary (e.g.: the first guide for the ladies in the 4x4 was taciturn and gave no explanation in the car; Roland addressed this immediately and had a new guide come to Lumbini. This lady was an immediate hit. As a result, our ladies in the 4x4 were also extremely satisfied from their trip).
Among the majority of participants, this trip is crowned as number one among all our previous trips.
Thanks for the organization.

Dominick GallantNovember 2024

Contact with the office was pleasant and friendly, adequate email responses. The trip was well balanced, in the sense that the advanced off-road rider was also catered for. Also sought and found beautiful and diverse places to stay, although for my part, however comfortable (I like to swim), the big hotels could have been simpler to stay in the local atmosphere. Roland talked up the meeting moments well. I would have liked a little more education about the route itself, that what awaited us each day. If the purpose of the trip is to serve as many people as possible, it was successful. Something for everyone with a varied package. Nature, exciting motorcycling and culture. If you like safari then that is a highlight of the trip. Also the lodge there is super atmospheric, idea that you are in Africa. Wonderful. Highlights for me were Jomson, Kagbeni and Muktinath. But I also found Kathmandu impressive.

Hans van EsApril 2024

I can look back on a great time spent in Nepal, the outbound and return flights with Quatar via Doha were excellent !!! I found the round trip in Nepal itself to be a super experience. I had actually assumed that the trip would have more of a “pilot character”. I had counted on having to find a hotel in every destination, but Roland had already taken care of this. The country and its people made a huge impression on me. I was able to discover this a little more by spending a few extra days in Kathmandu which allowed me to see a few more things. I want to thank you again for the trip and maybe until next time. .

Where is Mustang located in Nepal?

Mustang is located in the north of Nepal, in the impressive Himalayan region. The region is known for its rugged mountain landscapes, deep valleys and strong Tibetan influences in culture and architecture.

During this motorcycle trip, we will ride through Lower Mustang, a spectacular area known for its dramatic landscapes, traditional villages and beautiful mountain panoramas. Among other things, the route follows parts of the famous Kali Gandaki Gorge, one of the deepest valleys in the world.

How high do we ride during this motorcycle trip in Nepal?

During this trip, we will drive through the Himalayan region of Nepal and reach altitudes up to about 3,800 meters. Especially in the region of Muktinath we ride at higher altitudes. Because the route rises gradually, your body can get well used to the altitude.

What is the best travel time for a motorcycle trip to Mustang?

The best period for a motorcycle trip to Mustang is usually spring ( around month of April ) and fall ( around month of October ). During these periods, temperatures are pleasant and you often have clear views of the Himalayas. The landscape of Mustang is then at its most beautiful.

What kind of motorcycles will we use on this trip?

During this trip, we ride on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, a modern adventure motorcycle specially designed for long rides and rough terrain. With its comfortable seating position, strong single-cylinder engine and good suspension, this motorcycle is well suited for the mountain roads of Nepal.

The Himalayan 450 comes into its own perfectly on the mix of asphalt, gravel and dirt roads encountered in Lower Mustang. Its power and stability make riding in the Himalayas comfortable, even at higher altitudes.

Known as one of the best motorcycles for mountain adventure routes, this motorcycle is an ideal choice for this motorcycle journey through the Himalayas.

Are we only riding the Mustang in this motorcycle trip?

No, during this journey we discover much more than just Mustang. Although Lower Mustang is one of the highlights of the route, we drive through several regions of Nepal.

The journey begins in Kathmandu and takes us along beautiful roads toward the Annapurna area and the mountains around Pokhara. From there we move further into the Himalayas towards Lower Mustang.

During the trip, we also visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this special place is an important spiritual center for Buddhists from around the world.

It is precisely this combination of Himalayan landscapes, culture and historical sites makes this motorcycle trip through Nepal so special.

Do I need a lot of off-road experience for this motorcycle trip?

Some experience with unpaved roads is certainly pleasant. During the trip we ride a mix of asphalt, gravel and mountain roads. The routes are doable for motorcyclists with normal riding experience, but it helps if you've ridden unpaved terrain before.

Is it advisable to stay several days in Kathmandu?

Yes, spending a few extra days in Kathmandu when you have the time. The city is the cultural and historical heart of Nepal and there is an awful lot to see and do.

For example, you can visit the famous temples and squares such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. In addition, it is also fun to walk through the narrow streets of Thamel walk, where you will find many restaurants, stores and cozy cafes.

Many travelers choose to arrive a few days earlier or stay a little longer after the motorcycle trip, so they can quietly get used to the country, culture and pace of Nepal. It is a great way to begin or end your adventure in the Himalayas.
