Majestic Mountains & Rice Terraces - Motorbike Trip Philippines
The Philippines form an impressive archipelago of as many as 7,641 islands. The two largest are Luzon and Mindanao, which together cover about two-thirds of the total land area. With an area of about 300,000 km², the country is more than seven times the size of the Netherlands and nine times the size of Belgium. Today, the Philippines has a population of about 120 million.
The capital Manila is centrally located on Luzon and forms the heart of the densely populated area known as Metro Manila. Along with Vigan in northern Luzon, Manila is among the cities founded by the Spanish as early as the 16th century.
Motor trip through northern Luzon
During this adventurous motorcycle journey through the Philippines we drive through the spectacular landscape of Northern Luzon. This area is known for its rugged mountains, deep valleys and winding mountain roads that are perfect for motorcyclists.
Luzon's landscape has great contrasts. In the mountainous north lie the world-famous Banaue Rice Terraces, which along with the historic city Vigan on the UNESCO World Heritage List. These impressive rice terraces were carved out of the mountains by hand centuries ago and are among Asia's most iconic landscapes.
Luzon's highest mountain is Mount Pulag (2,922 meters), just slightly lower than the highest mountain in the Philippines, Mount Apo. In addition to the mountain ranges, the island is also home to fertile plains where many of the Philippines' agricultural products are grown.
Motorcycling through mountains, rice terraces and colonial cities
This motorcycle journey through northern Luzon takes us mainly through the spectacular mountains of the island. In addition to impressive vistas and endless curves, we ride past traditional villages, green valleys and impressive rice terraces.
During the trip, we also take time to relax. For example, we stay in the mountain area around Banaue, surrounded by the famous rice terraces. In addition, we visit the historic Vigan, an atmospheric city known for its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture. There are also some days when we can relax at the beach.
The route of this motorcycle trip is mostly on paved roads, with occasional stretches of unpaved roads. In the mountains, the asphalt can sometimes be covered with mud after prolonged rainfall or due to typhoons that occur mainly between August and November.
