Flores is still an island where time has largely stood still, preserving the old authentic Indonesia.

Flores has many highlights, such as the Komodo Islands with its monitor lizards, Kelimutu 3 color lakes and the 17 Islands Marine Park.

We visit old traditional villages and see many rice terraces.

What is special about Flores is that it used to be connected to Australia making flora and fauna here different from other islands of Indonesia.

The roads we drive today are well paved and have lots of curves through a green area with vast rice terraces.

In contrast, the north of Flores is arid, hotter and less developed than the south but has something magical about it that makes you want to stay there longer. You really unwind here and don't really want to leave or go back home!

Driving License

For this motorcycle trip, you will need an international driver's license which you will need in your home country
pre-arranges with the ANWB.

Follow car

For our motorcycle tours, from 6 participants upwards, a support car with mechanic goes along. You can put your luggage in the follow car. Always make sure you have your gear with you for the day.

Clothing

Make sure you have adequate protection, even though we usually ride on well-paved roads it is good to wear sturdy shoes, long pants and a see-through jacket. Also, always bring rain gear, as there can always be a short but heavy shower.

Heaviness of the journey

This trip is doable, so also for novice riders. But keep in mind that driving in another country, including here in Flores, requires insight and flexibility. Compared to Bali relax Rond this trip has longer driving days but we always arrive in time at the hotel. The tour leader will explain to you what to pay attention to.

Insurance

For this trip, you are required to have a travel insurance needed with world coverage. Check carefully in advance whether motorcycling is covered. The policy number and emergency number should be taken with you and given to R2D in advance as well. Damage to third parties in an accident is not insured, and is usually settled on the spot. Regardless of who is at fault, the foreigner will usually pay for third-party damages. Fortunately, we are usually talking about very small amounts, unless it is a major accident.

Insurance to damage motorcycle is nowadays insurable with a deductible. Depending on which scooter or motorcycle you choose, the deductible will be between 300 and 500 USD. ( 2023 )

Health

About malaria there are many ambiguities. For proper advice, consult your GP/GGD or travel clinic. They can advise you whether you should take malaria pills ( usually Malarone ) for this trip, they can also assess whether this is possible in combination with any personal
drugs. Diarrhea can easily occur due to heat combined with a different type of food. Often the diarrhea is gone after a few days and can also be suppressed by Imodium, for example. If the diarrhea occurs for longer, local doctors have various remedies to treat it. If you depend on drugs or diseases, you should check with your doctor beforehand. He can assess whether this will not adversely affect the trip to be made. You should also inform R2D about this in advance.

Money

You can use debit cards at most of the places we visit; however, you must have your card unlocked in advance for this purpose.

For Asian countries, it is best to carry a world plug.

Day 1 Kuta - Labuhan Bajo (Flores)

Today we fly from Bali to the island of Flores and land near Labuhan Bajo. Labuhan Bajo is a developing because many tourists come here for the Komodo Islands to dive or hike and see the monitor lizards.

You will have the rest of the day to explore downtown.

Even though this place is not so big yet, there are already many tasty restaurants to find both local food but also western is also possible.

If you want to eat fresh fish then the place to be is at the harbor, you can't eat fish fresher than here.

Day 2 Labuhan Bajo - Bajawa

After a good breakfast and a short briefing, we set off. The entire stage today is to enjoy climbs of various mountains and hills. The area you drive through is very green, quiet and one curve follows another. After lunch in Ruteng we will drive, through the mountains Ranaka, Leda, Lobobutu and the Sawu sea, to Bajawa.

Day 3 Bajawa - Moni

In the morning you will first visit the traditional Ngada village. Then you drive further first over several mountains and in the afternoon the coastal road towards Ende to go back into the mountains and end up in the small town of Moni. Nearby are the 3 color lakes of Kelimutu.

Day 4 Moni - Riung

If you want to see the 3 color lakes with sunrise, you have to get up at 3:30 a.m. and ride the 12-kilometer mountain road by motorcycle in the dark! After that, you need to hike for about 30 minutes, to finally arrive at 1640 meters and enjoy the sunrise and the 3 lakes with its own colors.

After breakfast, drive to Riung, which is located in the north. This part has a different landscape and is especially arid in the dry season. The middle part of this day the road is of lower quality but good to drive.

Day 5 Riung - Stay ( 17 Islands Marine Park )

You will stay an extra day in Riung to admire the 17 Islands Marine Park by fishing boat. This protected area is unknown to tourists and very quiet. You will snorkel in a number of spots and at lunch you will have a BBQ fish dinner on one of the tropical uninhabited islands.

Day 6 Riung - Ruteng

Via the northern coastal road, of which a small part is still unpaved, we ride all alone through the fascinating landscape of North Flores. Sporadically we drive through a remote village where locals will stare at us as foreigners with motorcycles pass by. The last two hours of the route the road is paved and mountainous with breathtaking rice terraces that this region, called Manggarai, is rich in.

Day 7 Ruteng - Labuhan Bajo

When we leave Ruteng we turn off the main road after about half an hour and go through the inlands towards Labuhan Bajo. You will be surprised how many villages we encounter on the way, despite the fact that the main road and the city are far away. Many roads here have recently been paved, but not everything, which makes this day even more special.

We spend the night again in the same hotel as last time in LB.

Day 8 Labuhan Bajo - Accommodation

This day will be very special because we will visit the island of Rinca by boat ( type of boat depends on the size of the group ). On this island you can take a hike with a breathtaking view of Flores, see the buffalo still living in the wild and also the Komodo dragons. On the return trip we will also have time to snorkel. The Komodo archipelago falls under UNESCO as the underwater world of this national park has unique fish species.

Day 9 Labuhan Bajo - Kuta ( Bali )

Today you will fly back to Bali. Depending on the departure time, you will have time to do some shopping in Labuhan Bajo or possibly arrive in Bali as early as the afternoon.
