Malaysia is a modern Asian country. The country has good infrastructure and good facilities everywhere. Despite being a modern country, there are still many old cities and buildings that reflect the country's historic era.

In addition, central Malaysia has a large unspoiled nature reserve with many special animals and mountains where there is agro cultivation. Throughout the country you will find palm oil plantations and logging, but also durian, the stinking delicacy fruit for Asians, can be found here a lot.

And of course the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur is well worth spending a few days there, in addition to the well-known highlights such as the Petronas Towers, there are many cozy (evening) markets to walk around.

Visa

You will need a visa for this motorcycle trip. You can arrange this on the spot upon arrival. Please make sure that your passport is still valid for at least 6 months upon your return.

Driving License

For this motorcycle trip, you will need an international driver's license which you will need in your home country
pre-arranges.

Pocket Money

Even though much is already factored into the trip price, you will still need some pocket money. This is an indication for you what approximately the general costs will be for food, drinks and gasoline. For most Asian countries you can figure about 15 to 20 euros per day.

Luggage

Luggage goes on the back of the bike. most motorcycles can be equipped with side cases and top case.

Clothing

Experienced motorcyclists know better than anyone else that wearing proper clothing is important, so even in the tour you are going to ride we stick to it. The requirement is to wear long pants ( motorcycle pants) and a ( motorcycle ) jacket, as well as sturdy motorcycle shoes or possibly high hiking boots and summer gloves. It is best to bring your own helmet.

Be aware that especially in the mountains, weather changes can occur and it may cool down or rain. Always bring 1 fleece sweater and rain gear. Raincoat is also good to use to block the wind when it gets colder.

Heavy travel

This trip is on road with big motorcycles that have good comfort. some days in terms of kilometers are a lot but doable. This trip can be characterized as easy.

Mechanic

No mechanic goes with it.

Insurance

For this trip, you are required to have a travel insurance needed with world coverage. Check carefully in advance whether motorcycling is covered. The policy number and emergency number should be taken with you and given to R2D in advance as well. Damage to third parties and damage to engine is insured through the rental company with a deductible. For more info ask us for current terms and conditions.

Health

About malaria there are many ambiguities. For proper advice, consult your GP/GGD or travel clinic. They can advise you whether you should take malaria pills ( usually Malarone ) for this trip, they can also assess whether this is possible in combination with any personal
drugs. Diarrhea can easily occur due to heat combined with a different type of food. Often the diarrhea is gone after a few days and can also be suppressed by Imodium, for example. If the diarrhea occurs for longer, local doctors have various remedies to treat it. If you depend on drugs or diseases, you should check with your doctor beforehand. He can assess whether this will not adversely affect the trip to be made. You should also inform R2D about this in advance.

Flexibility

R2D tries everything, as best as possible, to keep the trip on track, however, there may be situations where flexibility is expected from participants. There may be engine trouble or the planned route is temporarily not possible due to works.

Day stages

The roads in Malaysia are of good quality. The day stages are about 6 to 8 hours most days.

Traffic

Driving in Asia is different from participating in traffic in Western European countries. In the briefing you will be informed about this in detail.

Money

You can use debit cards at most of the places we visit; however, you must have your card unlocked in advance for this purpose.

Electricity

For Asian countries, it is best to carry a world plug.

Day 1 Departure

Today you will depart for Malaysia.

Day 2 Arrival Kuala Lumpur

Arrival is in Kuala Lumpur a metropolis with many opportunities.

The airport is 1 hour from down town.

Depending on your time of arrival, you may have the opportunity to explore KL. a visit to the Petronas Towers, China Town or just stroll around the many evening markets.

Day 3 Kuala Lumpur - Malacca

In just 15 minutes we drive out of Kuala Lumpur via the toll road down town toward the south east where immediately a beautiful route begins in a hilly forested area. With many curves the first two hours it is immediately enjoyable, but this lasts almost all the way to Malacca. Last hour we take the through road that brings us to Malacca. Down town Malacca is cozy with historic buildings and good restaurants and nice cafes along the canals.

Hotel for tonight is an old industrial building with nice touches like a cozy courtyard and also has a good breakfast.

Day 4 Malacca - Kuala Tanah

We first have to go through the crowds to get out of the city, but then it is quiet again and we can tour nicely on secondary roads that with its delightful curves through forested areas takes us towards the middle of Malaysia.

The last part goes again through a vast area with palm plantations that brings us to the edge of a national park bordered by a river, called Taman Negara. A vast area of over 4,300 km2 where jungle tours of 1 or more days are organized. For us, we stick to a long tail boat ride to get a little taste of the atmosphere.

The overnight stay here is simple guesthouse.

Day 5 Kuala Tanah - Cameron Highlands

We have to drive back a bit and then take quiet secondary roads to Kuala Tipis, where we will have lunch. Kuala Tipis is known for the fact that gold can be easily extracted from the ground without having to dig too much. The gold is almost literally on the street!

Then we head towards Cameron Highlands, the most famous part of Malaysia because it is a bit higher so there is a lot of agro and of course it cools down nicely in the evening. The route there is with many turns and still nice and quiet, until we get to the 59 where there is a lot of traffic taking us to the center.

We will stay overnight in a historic English mansion, each room is different and in the evening we will enjoy delicious refreshments by the fireplace.

Day 6 Cameron Highlands - Pasir Senor

After a good breakfast we drive further into Cameron Highlands area and after driving through the city center it quickly becomes quiet again.

A beautiful route with wonderful curves and vistas over this hilly and wooded area where again there are many palm plantations.

The route takes us to Pasir Senor, a sleepy village where many Chinese live.

Our lodging is right on the Kalantan River. Simple wooden buildings but with air conditioning and a pool to cool off. The owners will treat us to a delicious BBQ with a campfire attached.

Day 7 Pasir Senor - George Town

Today's route is mostly on the number 4. A lovely road along the border with Thailand with lots of curves and beautiful views, as it is hilly here. Several times we will get off the 4 to drive small roads for a while.

Last hour will be busy on the road again because we have to cross the bridge to the island of Penang. We spend the night in George Town in the old historic part with many old buildings.

A Chinese warehouse from 1850 will be our sleeping place for tonight. An unusual building with different types of rooms where the authentic details have remained such as the baskets used to pull up through the shaft with a rope.

Day 8 George Town - Ipoh

We leave Penang Island via the new 17-kilometer-plus bridge. The first hour we drive on the highway to get away from the crowds, but as soon as we turn off the highway it quickly becomes quiet on the road. Again we ride through beautiful curves in a wooded and hilly area.

Last 25 kilometers we take the main road again to get to the center of Ipoh as quickly as possible.

Modern hotel with several restaurants and a bar across the street. The tourist spots in downtown is also within walking distance.

Day 9 Ipoh - Kuala lumpur

We drive the 1 that takes us south, a beautiful route through rolling wooded areas with again many palm plantations. Then we turn off towards Frasers Hill, a nice ride with many curves to end the trip well. Last part we take the highway to quickly reach the center of KL where we return the bikes.
