Majestic Mountains & Rice Terraces
The Philippines is a republic. The archipelago consists of 7641 islands of which the largest two are Luzon and Mindanao. We are driving in the north of Luzon. Together, these two islands cover about two-thirds of the country's area, which, at about 300,000 km², is more than seven times the size of the Netherlands and more than nine times the size of Belgium. The Philippines has about 120 million inhabitants.
Manila, the capital and seat of government of the Philippines, is centrally located on the island in a densely populated area called Metro Manila. Manila, along with Vigan in northern Luzon, is one of three cities founded by the Spanish as early as the 16th century.
Luzon's landscape is one of extremes. In the mountainous north are the world-famous rice terraces of Banaue, which, like Vigan, are World Heritage Sites.
Luzon's highest mountain is Mount pulag, which at 2922 meters is just slightly lower than the Philippines' highest mountain, Mount apo. In addition to the mountains, however, the island is also home to vast plains, where many of the Philippines' agricultural products come from.
This Filipino motorcycle tour goes mainly through the rugged mountains of northern Luzon.
Besides impressive vistas, you are going to ride a lot of curves.
We also added 3 days where after a nice day of driving we can relax at the beach but also in the mountains of Banaue with its impressive rice terraces as well as the cozy town of Vigan with its Spanish colonial houses.
The route is mostly on road with occasional days of unpaved sections included. However, the paved roads in the mountains are sometimes buried with mud after a prolonged rainstorm or typhoon that are common here from August to November.
In short, this trip has possible unexpected adventures.
